This training has been organised by The PROFIBUS Association of Australia (PAA) in conjunction
Andy Verwer, of Verwer Training & Consultancy Ltd in the UK.
www.verwertraining.com
It provides an opportunity to obtain world-wide recognised qualifications in PROFIBUS technology.
The training splits into three separate courses:
- Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course (1-day)
- PROFIBUS Commissioning & Maintenance Course (1-day)
- Certified PROFIBUS Engineer Course including 1 day Commissioning & Maintenance course (4 days)
- Combined Profibus Installer, Commissioning & Maintenance & Profibus Engineer course (5 days)
The Certified Installer course provides an essential prerequisite for the other courses, or it can be
taken on its own for those that just need to know about the physical layout and wiring. A PROFIBUS
Installer is recognised throughout the industry as someone who is competent to layout, install, repair
and test PROFIBUS wiring.
The Commissioning & Maintenance course teaches students how to use a modern Class1/2 master,
analyser and oscilloscope to exercise, verify devices and health check working networks. The Certified
Installer Course must be completed before undertaking this course.
The Certified Engineer course is the flagship qualification from PROFIBUS International. It covers the
detailed operation of PROFIBUS networks and covers all aspects of the protocol involved in DP and PA
systems (DPV0 and DPV1). The Certified Installer Course and the Commissioning & Maintenance courses
are prerequisites for the Certified Engineer course.
Course Assessments
The Certified Installer and Engineer courses both include theory and practical tests. These are accredited
through PROFIBUS International and the Competency Centre (PICC) at Manchester Metropolitan University
in the UK. All tests are all completely "open book", that is you may use all the course notes and
reference materials freely during the tests.
Training Materials
Trainees work in pairs sharing a set of training equipment which comprises a rack of PROFIBUS slaves,
cable and connectors. Tools include cable preparation and test tools, ProfiTrace Ultra analyser/class1/2
master and laptop (laptop not used on installer training).
- Accredited 1 day course covering Layout, Installation & Maintenance of
PROFIBUS Networks
- Developed and operated by the International PROFIBUS Competency Centre
(PICC) at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).
The course is designed for engineers and technicians who are involved in the
planning and installation of fieldbus network. No previous knowledge of fieldbus
systems is required.
The course starts with the basics of PROFIBUS DP, FMS and PA transmission
technologies, including RS485, IEC6115B-2 and fibre optics.
1 day course - teaches students how to use a modern Class1/2 master, analyser and oscilloscope
to exercise, verify devices and health check working networks.
The course is designed for engineers and technicians who are involved in the planning and
installation of fieldbus network. No previous knowledge of fieldbus systems is required, but the
Certified Profibus Installer course must be completed before undertaking this course.
This course provides an intermediate level of training covering faultfinding and maintenance
techniques for application on operational PROFIBUS systems.
The course covers the practical use of a modern analyser and high-speed oscilloscope to fault-find
and health check operating PROFIBUS networks. The course also covers the use of a Class1/2 master to
test and exercise devices. The course deals with DP and PA technology in a practical, hands-on
environment.
This one-day course does not incorporate any assessments and is not accredited, however an
attendance certificate will be issued for those not continuing with the Certified Engineer Course.
- 4 day course covering PROFIBUS Network Design, Commissioning and
Live fault-finding
- Developed and operated by the International PROFIBUS Competency Centre (PICC)
at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU)
The Certified PROFIBUS Engineer Course is for engineers and technicians who already
have a basic technical knowledge of PROFIBUS or other fieldbus systems. The Certified Profibus
Installer course must be completed before undertaking this course.
The course starts with the basics of Profibus DP, FMS and PA transmission technologies.
It then goes on to cover DP version O (DPV0) in detail and how to use a high-speed
analyser to trace faults on live PROFIBUS networks.
