Industry demand brings UK Profibus expert
to Melbourne for the first time

In response to the huge number of requests, leading UK trainer Andy Verwer will conduct his accredited Profibus training courses in Melbourne for the first time. These courses are being organised by the Profibus Association of Australia and will also be conducted in Perth and Brisbane in May 2010.

Victoria has a huge concentration of food and beverage processing plants, as well as water/ wastewater treatment facilities. Local plant owners, engineers and operators have been clamouring for a certified training programme in Victoria and Melbourne was thus added to Verwer’s Australian training schedule. He has been providing Certified Profibus training for over 15 years.

Over the last four visits to Australia, Verwer has successfully delivered Installer and Engineer certified training to more than 200 local engineers. Verwer has 30 years experience working and teaching in the automation and control industry and is a key member of the Profibus International organisation in the UK.

Verwer’s training programmes in Brisbane and Perth in November 2009 were oversubscribed and those that missed out will now have an opportunity to attend the May 2010 training sessions in these two cities.

Over in Western Australia, the ‘One Technology for all’ EXPO, to be held at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre on March 3, 2010, is generating tremendous interest, highlighting the need for Profibus skills training. This no-charge event combines an Information Forum and a Technology Exhibition.

Powered by the huge and growing demand from China and India, Western Australia’s resources sector has resumed its rapid growth. Mining, oil and gas companies are increasingly seeking to invest in advanced skills training programmes for their staff. The underlying benefit for these companies is the potential to boost plant efficiencies to satisfy growing demand as well as to decrease downtimes.

Following the economic downturn in mid-2008, the automation industry experienced a dramatic decrease in enrolments for skills-based training programs. However, things are now looking up, believes Profibus Australia chairman John Immelman. “The process sector is preparing for the future with renewed confidence and this is reflected in the number of enquiries we’ve received for certified Profibus training courses over the last 12 months,” says Immelman.
